The BIOS is the Basic Input Output system that boots and test your computer when you power-up. BIOS is actually firmware, the software that is programmed into a ROM (Read-Only Memory) chip built onto the motherboard of a computer. The BIOS performs an initial Power-On Self-Test (POST) of the computer, initialize circuits, load the boot program (operating system) from the boot disk, and then handle low-level I/O to peripheral controllers such as keyboard and display.
If your computer does not boot and your power supply is not dead then the BIOS??™s POST will usually tell you what is causing the problem with a series of beeps and/or an error code and message.
