Keeping your network and computers secure has never been more important than it is today.

If you do not already have a firewall installed on your computer, we recommend that you do so immediately. A firewall is a piece of software or hardware that creates a protective barrier between your computer and potentially harmful content on the Internet, such as viruses and worms. A firewall also helps guard your computer against hackers.

Hardware or software? The one that??™s best for you depends on your situation. If you have a always on connection (DSL or cable modem) with less than 10 computers then the best solution is a inexpensive DSL router with a built in firewall. If you have a single computer with a dial-up connection then a software firewall is probably you best bet.

At the very least you need a Firewall and a up to date Virus Program

To Protect your hardware and data you should have a UPS

Keep your operating system up to date  http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

To perform an online check of your security vulnerability run the scans from http://scan.sygate.com/ or www.symantec.com/securitycheck

Wireless Networks

If you use a wireless network you need to take extra precautions,  you should hide the SSID, limit the number of  IP addresses the router will assign to the number of machines you have, only allow specific MAC addresses on the network and use 128-bit WEP or other encryption.
